Hi Liang,
What board are you using for mounting the platy? Do we have to do any coating on the board before mounting the plant? Will that last long? I love the wood David used for his coronarium, hard and nice shape. David, can supply uh?

TS, i`ve seen the wood Liang uses. No coating ( might poison the poor stag) but dunno what kinda wood. Liang ? But the wood doesn`t last, it would eventually rot. For the p.coronarium, some folks just hang it using a thick stainless steel rod which is pierced into the middle of the plant. This variety would eventually wrap around the rod which many many plantlets. Or some use high quality plastic rope ( dunno what it is called, the ones used for hanging clothes but better quality ) to hang it from wooden beams in the pegola. No wood, no rot.

Hi TS,
I suspect my board is from rubber tree. Bought it from my hometown nursery. They just cut a piece out horizontally from a tree trunk. So it looks very natural. I am going back next month during the merdeka weekend. If you want I can check out the nursery to see if they still have the boards for sale. Some of their boards are huge. can go to 2-3 feet in diameter. kinda give you an idea of how big the tree trunk is.

TS, I don't know what board I'm using but I got it from someone who told me that the board is treated and would last long. So far the board still stay strong and hard for more than 6 years now. I think it can still last for another 6 years but keep my finger crossed. I did not do any coating but the board came with a thin layer of white paint at the back. I believe it helps in long run if you can do some coating prior to mounting your platy. It won't poison your platy. I think a good choice of wood would be Chenggal. The wood is light and long lasting.
Tarence, using the metal rod to pierce into the middle of the plant method does not work at all. The rod get rusted and eventually the whole clump will just fall down one day. Instead of using metal rod or plastic rope, I have tied my p.coronarim clump with coated wire, which I think last forever.
David, I'm also interested to get the board that you are using. It look so natural. How much was it? Can get for me too?

Liang, some folks treat the stainless steel rod with anti-rust paint first so it might help with the longevity of the rod. Anyhow, anything will also rot or rust eventually. But the coated wires do sound like they`ll last for quite a bit. My stag collection is so limited nowadays, coz once the huge plants fall, it`s very very difficult for me to mount a plant that size again coz of the sheer weight. I tried then realised I probably need to go to the gym first ! Haha.

I'm using the coated wire to tie my coronarium too. What is the best thing to coat the board or wood? David, get the wood for us please. But if that is rubber wood, I don't think it'll last long outside where it receive rain and sunlight directly, must do the coating then.
