how come folks ? i noticed my 2 indicas started to bend over & i noticed that the small main stem below had turned brown. so i took out both plants from the medium & planted them futher down. really deep. they recovered after that.

but before that, i also cut off a few leaves to try & germinate...so far nothing yet but i`m pretty certain it`ll sprout. if such is your experience, then i`ll cut off more leaves to ensure that the variety continue to exist in my garden.

I did just that too.... Browning from low below and I repotted it really deep.... Looked good for a while... then... sob.... sob... sob.... It died!

As I know, D. indica can't propagated from leaves cutting. Same as D. burmannii. You have to let it flower and collcet the seeds to remain this species in your collection.

Hi all,
My indica was planted using sphag moss too. To my observation, the main stem dries slowly from the bottom, killing the plant softly. The plant then bend over and i have 'two' indicas.

have anyone tried to cut it into two, then plant it as a cutting?

Oh Dear, my indica stem at the base also starting to turn brown. But the plant still looks healthy at the moment. Lots of dew on the top leaves but afew bottom leaf starting to die. Still green but no dews.

It tried to flower twice and I cut the flower stalk off when it was only about 1cm long.

I need advise here... emergency! Looks like my plant is also going down the same path to plant heaven.
I hope it does not go down the same path. It has also tilt over a few days ago and I burried the stem at the base a little just like what youu gusy did.

Anyway Lim, my medium is sphagnum peat moss + sand at a ratio of 1:2.

Ok. Let me tell my experience with D. indica. The base stem will turn brown as they grow up. It look dried but the plant is keep growing. I let my plant to flower. I got 5 plant start got flower at July. 1 plant died at August. It died not because of flowering but got some dropping on its substract. May be frog or lizard dropping. Then Got 3 plant start dying in September. I have collect some seeds and sow them. Now I still got 1 plant survive. Some new young plants start to germinate in this month too. Some of my plants died because of the heavy rain drop.

As a conclusion, the plant will died after 2 months when it start got flower. If not may be something wrong with the substract.

i've read from somewhere that D. indica likes to be kept drier, so what i do is i let the water tray go dry for 1-2 days before filling it up again.

while the stem of mine also goes brown, i let it scramble around rather than tip over the edge of the pot so that there's not too much pressure exerted on the dry, brown stem.

Lemme add a few of my comments...

My D. indica cuttings always go brown after 2-3 days after saking in water to propagate... So I dont think it's possible to do cutting soaked in water propagation on them.

Always, always buy young plants. Or if you're confident, grow them from seed... They'll live longer with you.

Apart from rain, do protect them from heavy wind. My D. indica took rain well.

Flowersectomy (snip snipping the flower buds) appeared not working to save the plant from dying. Once an annual always an annual... Sighs. Let it flower and collect the seeds.

Arghh! Should have just let mine flower. I already snipped off 2 flower stalk. Hopefully it flowers again before it dies.

managed to get a ripened seed pod & some seeds...if you looka t the pic, look at the seed stem & you can see the seed pod on the bottom left.....phew....

just an update...my leaf cutting of the indica has sprouted a single plantlet after about 3 weeks. It isn`t easy like the filiformis or binata but it works. It also doesn`t give as many plantlets....hey, one compared to like 12 for a single filiformis leaf cutting. heheh.
go try if you have leaves to spare. i tried about 4 leaves, only 1 sprouted so far. 2 turned brown. One still green but no sign of life.

Hey Naj....my success ( or better to say, failure rate ) rate is also very bad.....1 plantlet from 4 leaf cuttings ! have also germinated lotsa seeds so hopefully, those will sprout. My 2 indicas are huge tho, almost the height of my filiformis, nearly 7". who would have thot my babies would grow so tall ? heheh.
