Went hiking. Got 4 types of moss including this lovely s/moss. i`ll try to grow it at home & see how it fares....it`s lowland variety. Question: it grew under filtered light in the jungle & on rotting medium / humus. How is it suppose to survive in our non-fertile medium & under stronger lighting ? Some CPs are even under full sun....Mmmmm.... I`m washing it very very carefully to remove all the humus stuck to its roots, then I`m putting it on my CPs which are in the shady area. Hopefully that`ll work. Not sure how I`m suppose to fertilise it though in future. here are 3 more moss variety photos This is a light almost see-thru fern which I`m trying to use as ground cover for the CPs

Tarence.....collecting moss is also another interesting subject. You don't actually have to wash them. Simply put them on top of a layer of thin sphagnum moss under filtered lights. Water them when they dries up. That's it! I have a few varieties including the actual sphagnum moss.
Mostly I use them as a covering for my nepenthes and other pot cultured orchids.

I`ll try to post pics of the other 2 or 3 types of moss I got.
They are very interesting `support` plants as mentioned by Andy to me...very friendly towards CPs which grow in shaded areas.I`ll try to take some nice angled close-up photos...

Tarence,
Stand corrected, isn't the third one (last photo) called java moss. Like those you get in LFS. Grows in water.

Akira, spagnum moss which found in lowland are growing well in shady and humid/moist area. Those growing in highland need cool temperature. So, you have to try your luck in plantation or jungle.
There are more than 2,000 type of mosses or liverwort can be found in Malaysia. But less than 5% can grow submersed (inside the water). The rest are terrestrial moss which is emmersed. And there are more than 20,000 type of mosses/liverwort can be found. And yet, there are still a lot out there which not yet discover. If you want to know more about mosses, you can contact the Prof. Haji Mohamad or his student named as Yong. Sad to say that only 2 experts in Malaysia are very good into mosses. And they are working close with few professors and student in Singapore. I was into research about mosses and liverwort last time. Planning to take this course in future.

We have the 2nd older jungle in the world. Forgotten it is Belum or Endau Rompin. The oldest jungle is Borneo. The biggest jungle aka the lung of the earth is Amazon.

Not all the moss which are from the jungles will grow in our gardens i`m afraid. Diff moisture, sunlite, temperature, humus etc levels. My 2cts laa.
