I have this not so commonly seen and yet not so beautiful showy inflorescence. The plant reached to a size of 4' dia with thin recurved silvery leaf blades. The height currently standing at 4.2' and growing. Surprisingly no roots. My friends are calling it a spineless pineapple plant! But unfortunately of course........no pineapple! Here it is.......

Wow! That's a beauty. So huge too and such a tall flower stalk. Is this the largest tilly Andy?

Aaaa.......Two contradicting opinions. This is interesting. I find this plant has its' own uniqueness to survive in it's natural habitat. For us humans, the judgement is solely on it's beauty and rarity!

David, This is not the largest one yet. The biggest is T. grandis reaching to 2 m in diameter with inflorescence stalk as high as 3 m that will last for more than a year. A high altitude monocarpic plant. It does not live well in the lowland.

but i must say that is a really nice tilly. i said i'd not buy it because i need the space for my CPs! small tillys like ionanthas, stricta are cute to have hanging around, i wouldn't want a baby 4" tilly to grow to 4'. i would really not know what to do with it then.

Yes indeed. It's not suitable for a small garden. Luckily, it's good to have a garden forum where we can share our thoughts and experience among us.

reminder : one of your tills flew off recently, David. it flew like a bird for 2 seconds and then sank like a rock. then it was mistaken for a pineapple by the guards. i had a good laugh when you told me. heehee.
