repeat post from GCS: xxx xxx After getting a 'gentle' introduction to bromeliads by atmccmn and sweethalo, i could not help but to go search for them. these are the ones that caught mine and my sis's eyes the most. Cryptanthus'Arlety' 'Black Magic' 'Circuit Breaker' 'Fire and Ice' 'Ice Age' 'Rainbow' 'Volcano' Neoregelia'After Dark' 'Alley Cat' 'Blue Angel' 'Blushing Bride' 'Blushing Tiger' 'Darkest Hour' 'Fireball' 'Gypsy Lady' 'Medusae' 'Night Sky' 'Northen Star' 'Purple Star' 1. can those listed above do well with full sun from sunrise till 3pm? if not, is there any alternative plants that can take such amount of light? 2. how do i tell if they require more light or less light? any website that has specific cultural information for each of them? TIA

Hongrui, I'll have to write a long explaination for your posting here if I'm going through your list plant by plant. So, I'll give you a general guideline
All Crypts will do best if they have strong diffuse lights. Ofcourse there are some exception to this (that's why I find this fascinating). As for your lighting exposure. Try to avoid sunlight from 11am to 3 pm which is the strongest at this time frame. As for your Neos, you can look for those thick leathery feel of leaf form for sunlight tolerant plant. My Blushing Tiger gets 11 am to 4pm sunlight bit it's shaded occasionally by tree foliage. This does help a lot in preventing sunburn. Try to look for cruenta, concentrica or carchorodon parentage plant if you are looking for full sunlight plant. Carolinae or other bright neon colored plants only do best with bright diffused sunlight.
My advise is to look for what are the parentage as there are thousands of hybrids out there. You could not study them all. One thing, your locality is not the same as mine. My advise is you'll have to experiment by moving them around. See where suits them best. Good luck!

Hongrui,
I like your choices of neos.
While looking up your neo lists, I found a few very "wicked" stars.
Neo 'Star Of Bethlehem' - looks like alien plant. ;D
Neo 'Magic Star Mint'.
The list is endless.
Rgds, isaac

thanks, but you're poisoning me again! ;D
someone on GCS posted a very pretty Neo 'Midnight'. i'm a sucker for dark colored plants and 'Star of Bethlehem' looks darn cool too. i think i'll probably just get those in my list first and see how they grow. if they grow well, then i'll *probably* get somemore.
