Heheh, Hongrui, u 'borong' the ferns al together? From local nursery? Guess we all are weird-plant jerks..! ;D Naj 'borong'? whats that? i got them from a fellow grower who imported some plants from Thailand. hmm.. i'm not a weird-plant jerk! i'm eh just a weird-plant lover! Shawn, roughly how long does it take to go from the sporelings in pic 1 to pic 2?

Hi Hongrui - I agree, I didn't mean "jerks" more "odd plant" enthusiast, I think that's what Naj meant as well! The sporeling in picture 1 are about 1 year, those in pic 2 are about 1 1/2 years, (although those pics are different species). From that stage onwards they really start growing "rather" quickly! Pic 3 & 4 are probably only 2-3 months older than #2. I downloaded a few shots of the next size (when it becomes apparent that they are staghorns) but they had problems loading...I'll try again soon. Is that ridleyii mounted on cork board? Can't quite make out the material. Did you catch the modified sign in pic 7?

hehe oh yeah, i know what you and Naj meant ;D.
1/1/2 yrs.. okay... so my sporelings has got at least 15more months to get to that stage. zzz
that ridleyii is mounted on a fern slab. somehow, that slab has gotten kinda mossy. heh heh i saw the "gone huntin" sign on my first pass. now that i've taken a much closer look, it actually says "gone plant hunting"! hahaha i need a "plants gone hunting" sign to hang over my nepenthes! ;D

1 1/2 years goes by pretty quick! The consolation is that all that survive that long really "beef-up" pretty fast from that stage on. I just found MPENGLEE's thread about his brother's plants! Now THAT'S what I love to see! You'll notice that some of the sporelings are growing on some chopped up moss rather than sphagnum. (Whoops, just realized I only photographed the first one on sphag, but there are many more and they are all pretty pale looking) The color on those ones, on moss, and their growth rate seem far superior. I just did it as a test to see because the sphag ones looked so pale. I've been afraid to fert them as they look so soft and tender I think they might burn no matter how much I dilute. Wonder if we can get MPENGLEE's brother to get on-line? He's obviously got loads more experience than me! I have a real hard time finding cork board, fern slab, or much of anything for mounting epiphtes upon. Here, everything wooden gets eaten by termites before the plant ever matures!

Ok, here's a lesson to learn from...my loss! Last month I decided that the platys growing on pure sphagnum were looking pretty anemic and as a remedy I dropped 3 osmacote pellets in each small (3") plastic container with about 3-5 sporelings. DUMB MOVE! Today found that I killed them all, well all that I did this with anyway! Fortunately the ones growing on the other moss are still thriving!

hongrui,
Those are quite big plants of stags you've got there. Nice! Must have cost you a "$bomb$"! Haa, haa, I think I am also becoming a "weird plant enthusiasts". Noticed myself getting interested in Tills and Ant Plants.
