Wow...I have always liked Bulbs but for some reason they don't do well in my balcony even with alot of shrubs growing near it.

All these are true species plants. The need at least some growing conditions close to their natural enviroment. ie: shades with 50% of shade or more with comfortable temperature average of 27C). For us urban gardeners, this will be a task to achieve if we want to grow them well especially in a balcony with the soaring heat around.

Khairi.....very lovely. I know for sure that they will not grow well in my garden despite the shady corners, cool nite weather czo I have tried before.....but I can sure enuff can aprreciate their beauty.

Nice collection there Khairim. I have tried a bulbo sumatranum before...led to a standstill in growth and no flowers. it would be quite obvious for my house surroundings as it is very warm and dry at most times. I need to drench my Neps twice a day just to keep the plants from becoming wrinkled and droopy .

Basic tips for growing orchids
Micro climate - Orchid need time for adapt your growing climate. Thats why when you bring back the orchid from the nursery, its took long time to give you bloom again. BE PATIENT. I need to wait 2 years for my bulbophyllum grandiflorum to bloom again, now this species give me bloom 3 times per year.
Light - depend on what species, different species may have different light requirement, please let me know to advice you.
Water - the frequency depend on your growing media type. the best time to water is in the morning.
Aeration - IMPORTANT , if not the fungus disease will occured to your plant.
I saw a photo of orchids and tillandsia growing happily in-situ at the jungle. Very nice combination.
Tarence: I visited your place and here my advice if you need orchids for your garden.
The shady corner - the best place to growing Phalaenopsis orchid and also the low land paphiopedilum.
The holtumii's tree - bulbophyllum orchid is good. And also phalaenopsis. Imagine again, you will have 10 spikes at nearly 0.6 meters of several color phalaenopsis flower with long for 2 months.
