I never thot it`ll bloom coz of the stories I`ve heard about how difficult this variety was....but well, after almost 2 years, it`s budding now. Apparently, it`ll still take a month for the flower to bloom from this stage. i thot the flower had partially been eaten up by a caterpillar but upon closer inspection, it`s just part of the forming petal. phew, 2 years wait, the flower better NOT be sabo-ed. psst, if this is the albino variety, i`m gonna be rich selling it off at e-bay. *smile*

Albino !!!! heheh.
I was told to move it indoors to prevent rain water from collecting in its leaves & rotting the flower.
I was also told by another person, that if i change the location when it`s flowering, the diff new conditions might adversely affect it as well.
aaarrrghhh....

atmccmn : Before it bloom, just 2 name in my mind . Paphiopedilum barbatum or Paphiopedilum callosum. Both are beautiful! You will enjoy the flower about 1.5 motnhs.
tarence : as long as the microclimate not to much different from the previous is still OK. Don't forget to take photo when its in full bloom. Let me enjoy it!

it has bloomed....a big sigh of relief coz someone`s kid actually knocked the whole pot over 2 weeks ago...throwing the whole plant out of the pot. I was worried the roots would be injured but well, lucky it wasn`t. Mebbe I should impose a strict `No kids allowed` in my garden..hmmmmm...unless they are well-behaved.

Hi Tarence, Nice flower. I've got one, the same species myself and I bought it in bloom. Due to my own minimal knowledge about slipper orchid, the flower only lasted 2 weeks!! The flower rot early because water gets into the pouch when I water it. Well, I learnt my lesson. What a high price to pay when you don't do your homework...

thx Harris....about 6 weeks after this flower withered ( it lasted for about 5 weeks kot ), i got another bloom now. No one is as surprised as me. heheh.
unlike you, some orchid experts came to visit me & i got some pretty good advice from them. Lucky me. No water in the flower, don`t change the micro climate, etc etc...

I just came back from CH and saw one slipper orchid (the same species as tarence's) in one of the shops in Kea Farm have 3 flower on the same stem at the same time. From what I read, what usually happen is a new bloom will appear after the first bloom wither. The leaves size are approx. 8 inches.
The million dollar question is:
What trigger the orchid to bloom all 3 buds at the same time? Maybe a special fertiliser, or a hybrid that looks like the species or you have to wait for the orchid to grow to proper size? Can't get the view out of my mind lah...
