Vanilla is an orchid??? I thought it was a plant used in making ice-creams?

Plantlover,
Google Vanilla. It is the seeds from the dried pods of vanilla used for culinary purposes.

Bujang,
You managed to get yours to flower? What is your planting condition? Mine's been 2 years and about 20+ feet long and nothing. Just vine and roots. Feel like paraquat-ing it already. Can please post a picture of your growing condition and flower. Thank you very much.

Bactrus, I gave mine to my sister oredi as i hate it so much they dont give me the strong fragrant smell that i want. Will take the photo later when i got back to johore. i use ordinary potting soil plus xtra amout of perlite to aid drainage and air for their roots + a layer of crushed charcoal and bricks followed by a layer of coconut fibre. the plant was about 2' the first time i bought it and turned to be 5' to 6' within 6 month and gave me a single flower as a start. getting a direct morning sun till about 11 and bright position along the day. I use 1/2 strength gaviota 67 weekly and found this fertilizer works well to make even the most reluctant orchids of my collection i.e Grammatophyllum secundum to bloom.

Maybe mine has gone to neglect that is why it is not flowering. Would like to see your photos.
