I love begonias too, but it's hard to keep them in my small space and balcony. Currently, only keeping the famous common german cross variety which is the lone drought survivor from my holiday breaks (CNY, vacation etc). Our Malaysian/Borneo forest is full of wild begonias, Robert can attest to this. I notice that begonias love the ADA soil because I did everything I can to keep them alive in the past but failed. Then one day, I experimented using used ADA soil from my fish tank. The plant thrived on it. Just my own observation. Rgds, Isaac

i plant mine in normal compost + fine burnt earth with some added perlite.
what i know, they love humidity and grows like crazy if you ignore them & if the happen to grow someplace that they are not supposed to be at, like my aloevera pots!

what i know, they love humidity and grows like crazy if you ignore them & if the happen to grow someplace that they are not supposed to be at, like my aloevera pots! I totally agree with this! They will not do well if you shower them with attention (water them daily). Ignore them and they will surprise you.

very nice begonias, Athene and KK.
Athene, your noID 1 looks fantastic! noID 5 might be Begonia rex 'Escargot' but i can't be sure.
KK, do you have any IDs for your Begonias? the second begonia you posted looks very similar to my noID 1.

B. brevirimosa ssp exotica aka "Warpaint" is found naturally in Papua New Guinea. my plant came from a friend who got it from US.

We're part of the 'wired world' global village it seems - plants from New Guinea to Singapore via Florida Beautiful Begonia no mater where it's from, but inciting/inducing visions of war-painted N. Guinean warriors sounds like a great marketing plan to go with the perfect plant for the name! Hey, have a look at this link - I've only looked at a few begonia photos here so far - will have to see what else is going on at this site; www.plantworld.org/gallery2/main.php/v/Begoniaceae/Begonia+brevirimosa+ssp+exotica+4.jpg.htmlps I'm suddenly having a hard time getting pictures to post tonight - anybody else? Well - "I can not post pictures tonight" is more the truth of it! Doing everything exactaly the same as before but no go!

thx hongrui.....1st one gets about 2 hours pre-noon sun. The 2nd is just in brite light. i`m of the opinion that there are old skool begonias & new generation ones.
Newbies are like the ones Athene has...multi-colour , swirly leaves etc. Whereas mine are almost one-coloured leaf.
