Cryptocoryne is another type of plant which making lot of hobbyists crazy about it. It can be grown inside water (submersed) or out of water (emmersed). Some are very common and easy propagating. Some are not. You need a perfect water condition and substrate to grow them submersed. And if you are growing them emmersed, then you need very good substrate and high humid environment.
There are some species can be found in fast flow river. So, it is consider as the riverine type and growing well by using sandy substrate. Some can be found in peat swam area and most of them grow well with muddy soil with peat.
As I was told by a professor said that if you found this type of plant inside the river. Means that there is no chemical or any metal toxic inside the river. And the water is safe to drink.
And there are lot of hobbyists hate this plant. Because of it melt or dry up easily. That's why some of them are selling at very high price. Like USD200 per piece.

C.zukali. Was found many years ago. And heard it can't be found in wild anymore.
C.affnis. Still very common riverine crypt in Malaysia.
C.cordata var cardata. It can be found in Malaysia as well.
C.minima Can be found in Perak. And the latest place was found is in Selangor area. And that area almost destroy due to the development.
C.nurii Can be found in Pahang and Johor.
There are lot of much more exotic crypts found in Borneo, Sri Langka, Indonesia, India and other Asia countries. It is require warm temperature like 24C-34C to grow. That's why you can't see any from Europe or any country with 4 seasons.
