I'm having problems with my Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss. I have it, as a top dressing, in all my vft pots and in some pots it is alive but with black burnt tips. Other pots it is green and light brown with fewer black burnt tips.
I just replaced one pot where all the LFSM had black burnt tips with new LFSM which is a beautiful light brown. Does anybody know how I can keep it this way?
Thank you in advance for any useful information.
Giovanni

Hi Giovanni, are you using grow lights? It sounds like the LFS may be getting burnt if it is just the tips that are blackening. Any chance of a photo?

Hi,
Because of the hot Arizona sun, my plants receive around 5 hours of indirect sun each day. Thank you again!

It sounds like your LFS is getting sunburn and insufficient of water to me. One of my LFS pot which I placed outside received a few hours of direct morning sun with no "burning" effect, I think the cause could be insufficient of water or low in humidity. Are you growing them in the pot with water tray? Try to increase the humidity and always water from the top, this was what I did. Hope this helps.

Yes, the humidity here is very low. That is why I mist twice a day and water from above when I water. At this point I guess I will just start misting more.

Giovanni, are your LFS "dried" or "live"? I have a few burned Dried Sphagnum mosses as well. I do agree that it is most probably lack of moisture.

Oops... I misunderstood you Giovanni, I thought you are taliking about live sphagnum moss. What I meant above is live spahgnum moss.

Giovanni, I have so far experienced blackening in 2 out of 5 pots of VFT with dried sphagnum moss, but then again I understand what I have is "mixed moss" coz locally it is difficult to find Sphagnum moss here, live, dried, etc.
So far I have not yet had any big problem because of the blackening, I mean they are dead anyway right? What I would be afraid of, is that the blackening might be some kind of fungus. So keep an eye on it. What I do with mine is just make sure that it is always moist, it hasn't spread though. If you really dislike or suspect it to be fungus, I suggest just take off all the blackened ones. I hope you can get more dried moss easily though.
