Looks like the squirrels are playing with me.
Two months ago I bought a flask of tc nepenthes. So with lots of time during this CNY break, I deflasked the contents two days ago. I managed to get 40 plantlets. The larger ones I planted them in 12 recycled ex-MT black pots and the rest in small round pots. I placed the black pots in one tray and the smaller pots in another tray. I placed them in trays to prevent the squirrels from knocking them down.
Yesterday morning, I found the plantlet from second row, third pot missing. A search revealed the planlet besides a mirablis pot. Since there is no damage, I replanted it in the same pot.
AND GUESS WHAT. I found the same plantlet missing this morning and again I found the missing plantlet at the same place.
I replanted it but I just wonder whether the plantlet will be missing again tomorrow.

Something strange! Maybe you should place a video camera to record down how smart a squirrel is, then send the video to Discovery channel or Ripley's believe it or not.

I agree. Kinda strange behaviour for the squirrels. Hmm, could it be your children playing with you? Or worst still a "green eye" neighbour.
Either you continue with the chilli and garlic (was it garlic?) or build a cage around the whole shelf area. If not trap them and relocate them.
Perhaps the squirels are using your mirabilis pot as a storage place for their food. Try check aroud your whole growing area. Maybe they've made their home there.

Well here is one half of my problem. It was trapped today while it ate half the mandarin orange as bait. I ask my wife and kids whether they fancy herbal squirrel soup for dinner. And they gave me an emphatic NO! So I released it in the forested Cheras hills (near the wildlife dept hq). And for Jeffery, the squirrel was not harm or abused. Although it did received a small cut around the nose area. Choong

Thank you Choong I represent the squirrel to thanks you for the BIG heart. too bad there is not icon for crying and smiling face.Dont worry, they will not harm your plants again. Now you have to tell it about your neps and area. Then give it some fruits/nuts. Make sure you cover the cage with black cloth after that, open it until you reach to the forest. PS: take note, according to the nature law, if you catch one more squirrels again, must do the same things again. Cos nature like to test mankind for sincerely. Speak from true heart. Jeff.

Choong, that is a cute little fella in the cage. Eyes so big and black. Beautiful specimen. Feel like hugging it, squeezing it, pampering it and playing with it. So I guess there is one more to catch? It's other half?
Yaa Jeff, been wanting to add more emoticons in this forum. Sorry guys. Been busy with work and family. Dept restructuring, new job scope etc. Just did not have the time to search for it and upload it on the forum. Naj, can you help me out here?
I also noticed the emoticons only appear when we modify our post. Wonder why it does not appear when we first write the post. I'll try to figure it out this weekend.

Yesterday, I saw another squirrel. So I set the trap again with carrot and mandarin orange. This morning I saw the trap was closed. But it is only a RAT.
Well Jefferey, this time I didn't set it free. I used boiling water to ...... I hope you don't think I am cruel.

I don't think I can win. I think there are more than two in the neighbourhood. They not only bite my pitchers, and of the late they even pull a couple of my small plants from their pots. H E L P!

Choong, ever tried feeding them with papayas or bananas ? if they get food, hopefully they won`t bother about other stuff i.e. plants. i have 3 squirrels in my garden....the most they do so far is knock pots around a bit when they scurry around......and perhaps nibble my CPs leaves a bit, nothing really damaging. I do feed them with bananas once or twice a week when i see them, hoping that that it`ll keep them full & mischief free. My aunt does the same ( she has CPs too ) & she has no problem with the squirrels. Work with the `devil` for a bit & you may `convert` them. That`s what she says.
