Well I think it's flowering. I know it isn't good to let it flower but I have a few other flytraps so I decided to see what happens. I'll be posting pics because I have a new camera and need an excuse to use it haha. Will add a pic every few days. A few days after noticing it :

Well letting it flower can really drain the energy of the plant. And if the plant is weak it could die. Growth slows after flowering and takes a while to recover.

Dammit I set off a trap on the plant I always feel so guilty when I set off a trap accidentally... This one is flowering too which makes it worse. Does it affect the plant dramatically?

It's OK, as long as it doesn't happen repeatedly, it won't affect the plant dramatically.

Cut the flower stalk and struck into the ground, to propagate.

I have bought a couple of VFTs recently, two of them are flowering, but there is another flower stalk shooting up while the first flower stalk is flowering, for both the VFTs! I decided to let them flower, but I snipped off the second flower stalk because I don't want the plants to waste too much energy on flowering. I then put the flower stalks in sphagnum moss to see what will happen. Jeff, keep fingers cross, hope to see what had just happened to you! Haha.

I want to see if I can get seeds so I think i'll let it flower and try to polinate it. If a second flower stalk shoots up i'll cut that and see if I can propagate it that way. Here's its progress, The buds have formed

First Flower! I really think flytrap flowers are pretty~ P.S. How long is the blooming period? And when is the appropriate time to polinate it?

Ah Brad (who is like a super expert of flytraps haha) says this when I asked him about pollination of flytraps :
"The day a flower opens is the best day to use the pollen as it is freshest. But even the 2nd day it should still be good.
Anyway you need to put the pollen on top of the stigma in the center of the flower. The stigma becomes receptive on the 2-3 day after the flower opens. The day it opens the stigma looks like a point, but when receptive it will splay apart some and look fuzzy, kinda hairy, this is on the 2-3rd day.
So when you have a 3 day old flower, take the pollen from another first day bloom and put or rub the pollen on the 3 day old flowers stigma. In about 6 weeks time you will have seeds.
I use tweezers to pull a first day bloom pollen anther off the flower, and then rub the anther on a 3 day old stigma. Many growers just rub (two flowers together) the new pollen flower against the old stigma flower to transfer the pollen. "
Btw, out of all the carni plants, I think flytrap flowers are the pretties of them all haha.

I might try take pics. Hard to get a good shot while doing the thing. I think I polinated it today. I just use tweasers and pulled off a pollen stick (fail science haha) and rubbed it against the fluffy middle bit sticking out.

Well the flower curled up today. I see pollen on the fluffy middle bit still. Hopefully it will work. In 6 weeks i'll know hehe. If these flowers do produce seeds I may have too many. I'll be giving them away.
100th Post!!

Why not you try to sow it into your tank? To have a carpet of VFT? Hahah

First of all Zak, congrats on your first VFT flower. I hope it will produce seeds. I have never polinate VFT flowers before.
Jeff, I think that's a good idea to have a carpet of VFTs in Zak's tank. Would be nice to see a whole carpet of yawing VFT jaws asking for food... "Feed me!" Feed me!..." (adapted from "The Little Shop of Horrors" musical)

Ok well just to show what I'm doing I'll try post pics. This is a flower on it's first day : Notice the middle bit sticking up (sorry if it's fuzzy) is still a point. The pollen also seems to not have been released yet. (More pics coming today later)

Sorry late, photobucket problems... As you can see here the middle stick has become fluffy. I just pluck a pollen stick and rub the pollen all over it. You should see the yellow pollen come off and cover the fluffy bit.
