Can flytraps take direct rain? Our storms can get pretty rough. I would prefer to place the flytraps out in the open so they get more sun but I'm afraid the rain would damage the plant.

From my experience, i placed my vft direct in the open area where it receives direct sunlight and also direct rain. The vft will be ok but be careful that the wind might tumble the pot. Perhaps u can put some stones in the pot to make it heavier. As for myself, i place my vft pots on a brick, on the ground. So if the pot tumbles, it wouldnt give much effect on the plant.

I placed ALL my VFTs outside, they received direct sunlight and rain too. No problems at all. As for Naj's case, I think the sphagnum moss is too dry, so the pot is too light to be blown by the wind, this is one of the disadvantage of using Sphagnum moss as growing media. I thought this only happen to taller plant like Sarracenia or Nep where the centre of gravity is higher but not VFTs, unless there is really strong wind. Vft have very crispy leafs, sometimes the traps will be break by heavy rain. This never happened to my VFTs so far, ice storm?

TS, actually my vft pot never get tumbled. Hehe.. just incase i'm afraid it will get tumbled, i put it on the ground. I use peat moss + perlite with sphagnum moss as the toppings, and water it using the tray method. So far, everything went ok As for bifurcatum, it never happened to my vft too..

But if too wet, will cause root rot. But must not let it flood for days
