Well, i fed my VFT a fly that was maybe a tad too big =P and after a couple of days, it kind of produced this grey frothy stuff. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this is maybe?

Hi acidic, The food is very big compared to the VFT's mouth, even the fly's leg is at the outside of the trap. heheh. Are u sure this is a fly? if it is, its really a big one Its not a good practice to feed big insects as this will rot the leaves.

Hehe yea, it's a fly. I dont usually feed it big flies like that, it's just that the big fly was in my room. I usually feed it earwigs that i let run around untill it gets caught I was also wondering, how long does it take for a VFT to open? mines taking weeks. Maybe it's gone into dormancy? Its now late winter here is Aus.

Hi acidic055, VFT doesn't need any feeding during dormancy. In hot days, the trap reopen just in days. Those grey frothy stuff probably the digestive juice + the fly's body fluid, I guess. The trap is too small to accommodate the juices, poor thing. TS

Nice to see, nice to play with, once it gets too exhausted, it'll never shut again. The trap can only shut for 4 to 5 times, don't trigger it just for fun, as this will drain the energy of the plant.

Ekekeke... I like how you put it Ts... Like supermarket glassware department label... Nice to see... Neway... My big green vft named Shrek caught a cricket a few days back... the knee of the poor thing stuck out like a sore thumb from the jaws... No white frothy substance detected yet...

Hi Lisham, glad that you like it, hehe ;D. That particular trap will probably darken and die. You named your VFT Shrek? I haven't come across the name before. TS

Guess what Shrek caught? The story behind this pix is that the insect was building a nest made of mud behind my death rack and it disappeared some time last week. Case solved....
