Managed to get a small pack for RM10 in the Carrefour, Kepong. Saw a big and very compact pack like 20kg selling in ACE hardware for quite sometime ago for RM50. Due to weekend and try to avoid traffic jam. Didn't manage to go there n check out.

Hi everyone. I've been using an alternative media, florafoam recently, and its been working well for me. Its actually the green colored hard sponge like (normally used in flower arrangements), which I chop them up into small 1cm blocks. I use a thin layer at the bottom, fill it up with this stuff and another thicker layer of spagnum. It allows faster draining and drying out yet having moist in the media. Its far cheaper than most except that its initially quite a pain chopping them up. My plants adjusted well, and my x miranda pitcher produces 13" cups. I've tried perlite before and find that it breaks down too quickly, and not sure if the perlite dust is hazardous. And have not encountered any fungus issue on this media too. Has anyone tried this as well?

Saw the Spagnum Peat moss in Ace Hardware as well. RM49.90/= per 26L if i am not mistaken. There are 3 different sizes and prices. RM69.90 and RM89.90. If you have a huge collection, i think it is worth to get a big pack...
Florafoam..thought it is not cheap? Bought a piece for my cricker breeding project. Cost about RM3 per piece.

The stuff from UncleSam might not be totally sterile. I think TS mentioned in an earlier post that their peat moss for example actually contains nutrients. i`m not sure about their other products but I prefer to buy other brands like Horti....
I currently use peat moss from horti rm8 per kg fro ACE. I also buy their perlite. And got some from Camerons as well, seems to be okay.
LFS is sourced from a friend...i bought 5kg....got lots. Imported from Chile, not as good as the NZ one.

Yea, the UncSam's peat moss is not pure, got lots of dirty stuffs, yellowish powder and white stuffs growing inside the packaging together with the peat. But, too bad i cant find any perlite in ACE, so i bought 2 packs from UncSam.

Hi Dom, I get my florafoam from someone for RM10+, which after chopping can give about 5 pail loads (laundry pails). Thats quite a lot. Imagine, if I use spagnum moss, it will cost me easily rm200+. Thats awfully a lot of savings. Anyway, just my 2 cents. If you are keen, pm me and i'll hook you up to my supplier
