Hi Folks I will like to ask. Hope you guys can promote either N.Truncata or N.Veitchii to me. In GCS they are going to have a Mass order again from BE. I was thinking of getting Truncata or Veitchii, Both seems very exciting neps to have. Since BE has lowlander of both.
I decide to choose from this two , its because they look huge! I love Huge Pitcher. During Singapore Gardening Festive, BE has display their Truncata, I was poisioned. But Veitchii is unquie too.
For me, I can only get one to squeeze in my house.
So which one you folks will recomend? Pls help me! ;D
Growing condition, Full sun from 1 to sunset (depends on the weather too) Windy
Offtopic: From What i had read from <<bicalcarata (marudi) and N. veitchii >> thread, I see some of you have bad experience of growing Veitchii. Meaning Truncata is good??

Jeffery,
Growingwise, I can't help you much as I only got veitchii (highland) and truncata (lowland) from MT only this month. But in term of looks, veitchii has one of the most spectacular peristome. From MT notes, veitchii can be abit of a slow grower.
If space is your main concern, maybe truncata would suit you as the plant is more compact and don't spread around as much as veitchii. But truncata's leaves can be very very big. Even bigger than the pitchers! If you buy from MT, truncata only cost you USD5, compare to USD18 for veitchii.
My two truncatas from MT are 4-5" in diameter and comes potted. BE plants may come bare-root to save on shipping.
Check with David. He has truncata abit longer.
Good luck.
Choong

Thanks Choong You are right. SPace is my main concern.
But i rethink again. BE truncata costs (m) US$18 and Veitchii costs (m) US$23.50
So..... I had removed my order.... Too ex & no space left
I guess i will have those two in my dreams.
But I will like to know more about those two. So do continue promoting. Hehe... Truncata is still in my mind. Veitchii is nice but somehow i love the heart shaped leaves more.

Hi Jeff,
You could buy from Malesiana Tropicals as their prices are cheaper as Choong has pointed out.
I also agree with Choong that if space is your concern, you should go for truncata. I have one truncata that I have grown for over 2 years now. It is a compact grower and it does not vine. It gives huge leaves and picthers. However, I noticed that the plant that I place outside my window gives bigger pitchers compared to the one indoors beside the window. Even those in my shadehouse does not grow that big like the one outside my window. I think it might be due to the level of sunlight given to it. The one outside the window gets direct sun from 2-6pm while those in the shadehouse gets sun the whole day but under 70%-80% shade cloth.
I realised that veitchii is more particular about its growing conditions compared to truncata. I was never able to grow veitchii well at the window or terrarium. It only grew in my shadehouse and that also very slow. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Perhaps it needs to climb up a tree trunk like in the wild. Maybe it's kinda like Monstera Deliosa (Delicious Monster or Sweet Cheese plant) that needs to climb up to the forest canopy. Hmm, maybe I should try give it something to climb on and see what happens. However, I've killed my last veitchii some time back.
Actually, if you really like veitchii more, you could stil get it. Just trim it lor, when it starts to vine. Then, you'll be able to do cuttings and get more plants. It's difficult to do cuttings from truncata. I was never able to get a cutting from my truncatas.
My truncatas and veitchiis are from MT.

Hey Jeff, you've requested some pictures of my truncatas on my growlist section, so here goes... As you can see they are not as colourful, but the cheer size of it will knock you off. Well at least for me... haa, haa... I've seen a picture of a truncata where the owner could put his whole arm in the pitcher. Really huge pitcher.

Wow, I'm drooling too. What a marvelous plant you have! It's very healthy too. What growing media are you using beside those sphagnum laying on top? Put the whole arm in it? My God! You still have that picture? Please keep your cat away from now on!

This particular "pet" of mine is grown on pure long sphagnum moss. It was expensive to mix other stuff like perlite in the potting media. I grow almost all my plants in long sphagnum moss. The good quality ones from New Zealand.
Only recently I mixed perlite into the media of new plants that I repot. I mix about 1 part sphagnum moss and 1 part perlite.
Since this truncata grew well in the current media, I left it alone. Sometimes I noticed when I repot neps, they'll suddenly sulk and stop growing well.
Nope, I did not save that picture. If I remember correctly it was from California Carnivours website. I don't think so they have it there anymore. I saw it some time back.

Hey Korean, i found a nursery at jalan junid, near taman bahagia that sells CPs. But they do not wanna sell the truncata and the amp x bical. For display only. And more disappointing is the ampullaria which the owner planted it in soil. I had advised him to change it to sphagnum moss or coconut peat, but to him, it seems like i'm trying to act like i'm more clever than him. It was the first visit. The 2nd visit, the ampullaria is 50% dried. The ampullaria is dying. Again i advised him to change the medium. Hmm, i think when i make the next visit (3rd visit), i'm sure the ampullaria is no more there unless he change the medium
