I came in contact with Lau from Balakong. This guy is also a nepenthes fanatic and he has a cold terrarium with N. rajah in it. However, he did not say which picture is rajah. See who can guess then... haa, haa... I need to go see his plants. He has not joined our forum yet as he finds it difficult to communicated with us in English. He is chinese speaking. He owns his own business. Anyway, he has kindly gave me permission to post pictures of his Neps and cold terrarium for us to have a look and drool over. Enjoy... His cold terrarium... front view. Side view. He uses aquarium cooler with a humifier. As you can see the temperature is 22 degrees. Coooolll.... I think there's about half a feet to one feet of water in the tank with what looks like a water pump in the bottom. I think this is N. sibuyanansis. Does not look like rajah to me... does it? hmmm... My favourite N. campanulata. He has it!!! N. sanguinea / N. macfarlanei? Looks like N. rafflesiana x veitchii. Background looks like a couple of dozen N. xhookeriana. Cool man! So many pots! Not sure which of these is N. rajah

Wow, that's fantastic! I used to go Balakong where a good friend of mine is staying there. I didn't know there is such a nice place around. Would be nice if I could go and drool over his plants.

David : how did you manage to get the photos off him ? you no speaking chinese worrr. Btw, would you know if those hanging nep photos are from YG Park ?

Tarence,
Any chance of you organising a visit for us to Mr Lau's home? I am sure many members would love to see his collection and also learn his cooling contraption.

Tarence, whenever i go back to Muar, I'll visit his nursery becos only his nursery do sells Neps. hehe. Yup, he is slim, he smokes and he told me that he has Campanulata and Rajah. Asked him whether he has any campanulata or rajah to sell, but he said he does not have. Hmm.. Well, to confirm.. before this, does he own a shop at Nilai 3? Ooh, and he also told me that day that he owns a cold terrarium..

I`ve not been to Lau`s house actually ( he came to mine last week ) but apparently it`s not too far away from where I stay. Sure, mebbe a weekend in early July ? coz I won`t be around for the next 2 weekends in June. He did say that he`s free weekends. Let`s try to firm up a date & I`ll ask.
July 8th Sun evening 5 p.m. ok ?
Choong, David......who else is keen to go? I`m guessing Liang, Rozzan, TS, Zakhren, Jonathan,Eric, Jessie ( when she`s back from UK) ...... Ezrena & Jac nak join kita ? Jom laa.
( Sorry outstation folks if I`ve made you feel left out )
I`ll get the directions from him. Perhaps we could meet at Mines Shopping Fair or for those of you who live closer to my house & want to swing by my place 1st, it`ll be fine as well.

Lau says that pic 8 & 9 are n.rajah, pic 10 is n.lowii. The terrarium plants are his, whereas the other photos are taken ( as I suspected ) in YG Park.
Naj : he says you went to his brother`s nursery last week, masa ko balik kg jadi babysitter tu i guess. heheh.

David : how did you manage to get the photos off him ? you no speaking chinese worrr. We sms instead. At least both of us can make out what each one is talking about in the sms even with the language barrier. With words, very difficult. When he first called, I had to pass to my wife to speak to him as my wife knows mandarine. So we talked through my wife... haa, haa.

Robert,
My guess is Lau is using one of the aquarium cooling unit that sell between RM250 - RM500 (depends on the capacity). This is aquarium-hobbyist version of the unit that keep the lobster tank cold in the fresh seafood places. The pump is to circulate the water.

Issac,
Try the larger aquarium shops. The one that I frequent sells two size models (RM250 and RM500).
However, I was just talking to a friend, he told me that his air-con friend had converted a mini fridge to cool a terrarium with full temperature control. The monthly electricity bill is around RM30! I am looking into it and will update you.
